What makes AmericanWay different?

Your priorities are our top concern. AmericanWay staff work closely with you and your loved one, family members, physicians and friends to develop a personal care plan. The neighborhood-friendly size of our homes ensures staff are able to follow-through on that plan. Our well-trained staff continuously work together to build personal understanding and knowledge of each resident's needs and preferences. Thus, an effective, positive support system is created for your loved one and his or her family.

Also, AmericanWay's new homes in Portage are among the first assisted living homes in the area to specialize in the care of residents who have Alzheimer's, dementia, or other age-related memory loss.

Changing the nature of senior living

AmericanWay is about much more than working to provide the best senior living possible. The company was founded in 2006 by Janis Nowak, an innovative and award-winning nursing home administrator with a history of involvement and leadership in the assisted living profession. Ms. Nowak serves on the board of the Wisconsin Assisted Living Association (WALA), is a founding board member of the National Certification Board for Alzheimer's Care, and is an advisory board member for the Training Research Institute (TRI), based at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee's Center on Age and Community.

Through her involvement, writings, course presentations, workshops, and most of all, her innovative management,  Ms. Nowak has advocated for recognizing and developing the potential of all seniors, no matter what their situation may be. Home environments and programs developed under her watch received national, state and local recognition. More importantly, the lives of residents and their families were enriched with new therapeutic approaches, meaningful activities, fun events and educational programs.

Janis and her team of talented administrators, managers and caregivers bring to AmericanWay their strong belief in individualism, independence, voice, vitality, pride, open doors and endless possibilities. That's the AmericanWay!

Creating senior living
environments in which
individuals' spirits are
known and honored...

Places in which
people are able to
grow and flourish...

Where the assisted
living is directed by the
resident, not the staff

As a resident of AmericanWay, what can you expect?

  • Your voice will be heard
  • Our tasks will not preempt your needs
  • Productive, meaningful work is offered
  • Your life story is known and valued
  • Therapeutic treatment plans are developed and followed
  • You will meet other residents who speak well about their living arrangement, the organization and the future.
